Farmers' needs for nature conservation education in Greece
Article Abstract:
Agricultural modernization in Greek agriculture has intensified agricultural production in the fertile farming areas, during the past 50 years, and this has had severe impacts on the environment. Farmers' knowledge of the environmental impact of modern agriculture on the Ramsar wetlands and on the Plain of the Serres Basin has been been examined. Many farmers did not consider the environmental impact, and wetland farmers practised more intensive agriculture. It is therefore important to build a conservation consensus among farmers, especially in environmental sensitive areas.

Syndromes of production: an emergent property of simple agroecosystem dynamics
Article Abstract:
The combination of ecological and economic forces in a model of agroecosystem dynamics were found to be codeterminants of two possible 'syndromes of production.' One syndrome includes market volatility, high product prices, ecological decline, high cultivation intensity and low overall supply. The other includes stable markets, ecologically benign, low prices, low cultivation intensity, and high overall supply.
