Forest policy in the European Union and its influence on the plant diversity of woodlands
Article Abstract:
The importance of semi-natural ancient woodlands as a source of potentially high plant diversity and the factors affecting the diversity of vascular plants are studied. Measures are suggested for forest management at forest stand and landscape levels, which could enhance the diversity of typical forest plants.

Silvicultural management in maintaining biodiversity and resistance of forests in Europe-boreal zone: case Finland
Article Abstract:
The ecological and economical impacts of the current silvicultural practices by guiding the forest stand development in Finland are reviewed. Several silvicultural practices, like regeneration, young stand tending, and thinning from below, are explained.
