Two strikes and you're out
Article Abstract:
The number of disqualifications of company directors in the UK reached 1,460 in 1998, up by 241 from 1997. Some observers attribute this to a growing social awareness of immoral practices, while others feel that it merely reflects an improvement in the Dept of Trade and Industry's record for investigating malpractice. There has been criticism of the disqualification process, with certain commentators expressing the view that it takes too long and is too expensive. It is possible that making it harder to set up a company would cut the number of disqualifications, but no government would ever wish to do this.
