On the virtue of being the first born: The influence of date of birth on fitness in the mosquitofish, Gambusia affinis

Article Abstract:

The pattern of fat utilization is considered as the life history adaptation that enabled the mosquitofish, Gambusia affinis to acquire food resources in the autumn then allocate them to reproduction the following spring when the fitness of the young would be greater. One aspect of this hypothesis is evaluated by examining the probability of survival to maturity and fecundity of young as a function of date of birth.

Can prey behavior induce spatially synchronic aggregation of solitary predators?

Article Abstract:

Spatio-temporal patterns of predator aggregations within their settlement area were studied by integrating the main behavioral rules of juveniles of eagles Aquila adalberti. The results suggest that the spatially synchrony of the aggregation patterns were derived from a combination of behavioral responses of the prey and the distances between available settlement areas.
