Preservation value for groundwater quality in a large aquifer: a contingent-valuation study of the Alsatian aquifer
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to compare the willingness-to-pay of households living in polluted areas in Alsace as opposed to households that have access to the Alsatian aquifer. Two different methods of payment were used to estimate the determinants of the preservation value of groundwater quality. Results indicated that households living in polluted areas have greater willingness-to-pay for a hypothetical program of preservation compared with other households.

Environmental pressures on conserving cave speleothems: effects of changing surface land use and increased cave tourism
Article Abstract:
Studies have unearthed the negative environmental effects of increased cave tourism and changing surface land use on public show-caves in Europe. The high volume of visitors have increased cave temperatures due to higher carbon dioxide concentrations. Cave speleothems may be at risk from the increased number of tourists. This risk is highest in caves with poor ventilation and low calcium ion concentration in drip waters.
