Public attitudes and values for wetland conservation in New South Wales, Australia
Article Abstract:
Five questionnaire versions have been used to obtain the views of residents of New South Wales, Australia, about wetland conservation issues. Researchers gave particular attention to how much individuals would be willing to pay each year to conserve the state's wetlands. Across the five questionnaires, median willingness-to-pay value was A$100 per year for five years, with a lower quartile of A$50 and an upper quartile of A$150. This research indicates that Australian government efforts to conserve wetlands reflect the desires of ordinary people but do not go far enough.

An ecoregion classification of the South Island, New Zealand
Article Abstract:
The application of six macro-environmental variables to a study of the South Island of New Zealand and Stewart Island reveals that the region can be divided into 12 ecoregions. The six environmental variables are bedrock, soil, vegetation, relief, official climatic regions and rainfall. These variables are examined and demonstrated using a geographic information system. The ecoregional classification, which can be further subdivided according to variations if required, would be useful for assessing environmental management requirements.

Institutional and landowner perspectives on wetland management in New Zealand
Article Abstract:
The institutional and landpower arrangements are made for the wetland management and protection in New Zealand as only 8% of its original wetland areas remain. The survey was conducted to involve the resource management agencies in the country on the wetland management and planning the procedures of wetland protection. The problems of the conservation effort in New Zealand and the lack of knowledge of the resource management agencies about the wetlands crisis are identified.
