Rings, circles, null-models for point pattern analysis in ecology

Article Abstract:

Guidance is provided to the ecologists with limited experience in second-order analysis and also to help them in the choice of appropriate methods. The methods for analytical and numerical implementation of two complementary second-order statistics, methods of edge correction, methods to account for first-order effects of univariate patterns and a variety of useful standard and non-standard null models for univariate and bivariate patterns are discussed.

Spatial patterns of herbivory by gall-forming insects: a test of the soil fertility hypothesis in a Mexican tropical dry forest

Article Abstract:

The spatial distribution of GFI species under different habitats in a tropical dry forest at the Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve, Mexico was analyzed. The study indicates that soil fertility is one of the factors that negatively affect the patterns of spatial distribution of species richness, incidence and abundance of GFI at the community level.

Wooded habitat edges as refugia from microtine herbivory in tallgrass prairies

Article Abstract:

The impact of wooden edges on vole distribution and herbivory of relatively palatable and unpalatable native prairie plant species is investigated. The results reveal that the meadow voles were less abundant at wooded edges and increased in number toward the prairie interior.
