Some evolutionary consequences of being a tree

Article Abstract:

Trees have high levels of genetic diversity while accumulating new mutations. They are also capable of rapid local adaptations and can evolve quickly from nontree ancestors, however most existing tree lineages typically experience low speciation and extinction rates. Study is presented to show why the tree growth habit should lead to these seemingly paradoxical features.

Predator-induced phenotypic plasticity in organisms with complex life histories

Article Abstract:

The broad range of metamorphic responses to predation risk has been discussed, presenting an exciting challenge to the study of predator effects on life history shifts. No model predicted that larva would metamorphose later and at a larger size in response to the risk of predation in a constant resource environment.

Evolutionary biology of animal cognition

Article Abstract:

Five key evolutionary issues pertaining to animal cognition, defined as the neuronal processes concerned with the acquisition, retention, and use of information, have been reviewed in a study. The environmental effects on cognition and the effect of cognition on evolution have been discussed.
