Why don't bigger plants have proportionately bigger seeds?
Article Abstract:
Hypotheses for allometric relationship in seed plants are presented and their substantial implications in the study of plant life history evolution is considered. The results predict a generally greater rate of increase for lifetime fecundity than for seed mass as adult plant mass increases.

Responses of temperate woody seedlings to shade and drought: do trade-offs limit potential niche differentiation?
Article Abstract:
Diversity in seedling responses to combined shade and drought can drive species niche differences, and thus natural forest and scrub establishment dynamics and diversity. Experimentally quantified shade and drought tolerances varied independently for the 13 species tested.
