There's plenty up north
Article Abstract:
Canada has very extensive water supplies, and there appears to be no reason why some of this water should not be exported to the US, where the population is much larger and water is in short supply in some areas. However, environmentalists and nationalists claim that water should not be seen in the same way as other natural resources which have been exported by Canada for many years, such as oil. They believe that transnational companies should not be allowed to control water, and claim that the impact of exporting water on marine species, water tables and ecosystems as a whole cannot be accurately established.

The Siberian mercury anomaly and a tentative answer to the missing mercury problem
Article Abstract:
Mercury usage figures for pre- and post-Soviet Russia fail to match figures demonstrated in gold mining use. Several hypotheses exist to account for the amounts of mercury that have not been reclaimed or recycled, the primary one being that post-Soviet restructuring halted most mining, and the mercury was either sold or appropriated. This may impact future mercury reserves and prices.
