Logic of experiments in ecology: is pseudoreplication a pseudoissue?

Article Abstract:

The author compares and contrasts several methodologies in replicating ecological experiments, and concludes the article by supporting the use of inferential statistics to elucidate patterns between samples and statistical populations. She maintains that pseudoreplication, which employs inferential statistics, is a valid methodology for ecological experimentation.

Indirect effects of deer herbivory on local nitrogen availability in a coastal dune ecosystem

Article Abstract:

The possibility of herbivores having indirect effects on local nutrient availability is studied for black-tailed deer feeding on silver bush lupine in a costal dune system in northern California. The result shows that browsing by deer significantly reduced growth rates and seed production of lupines and delayed the onset of reproductive maturity.
