The timber trade adn global forest loss
Article Abstract:
The international timber trade is accused of being the main perpetrator of degradation in forests that contain the highest levels of biodiversity. By extending the analysis to include a number of variables such as including all types of forests rather than only rain or tropical forests into the equation or by considering forest quality as well as quantity, the target has shifted from cultivators and fuelwood collectors to the timber trade.

Deafness to global water crisis: causes and risks
Article Abstract:
Water conservation is becoming increasingly important as global demands on the earth's water supply continue to rise. More water is needed to support a rapidly growing population that depends on water for drinking, food production, hygiene and industrial processes. Unless appropriate management techniques are adopted, water scarcity will result not only in subsistence crises but contribute to sociopolitical tensions as well.

Study of global warming by GFDL climate models
Article Abstract:
An earlier attempt to study the green house effect using a one-dimensional model of radiative, convective equilibrium of the atmosphere is compared with a recent study using a different system developed at the Geophysical Fluid Dyamics Laboratory. This system uses a general circulation model coupled with atmosphere-ocean-land surface systems.
