The year of the environment?

Article Abstract:

The recession is diverting the attention of policy makers from environmental issues. Laws regarding the protection of public lands and forests, the renewal of the Endangered Species Act's authorization, and amendments to the current solid waste policy are not expected to be passed in 1992. Only the National Energy Strategy bill stands a good chance of being enacted into law.

Article Abstract:

Pres Bill Clinton's proposed energy tax has fueled controversy and confusion regarding its purpose and effect. Environmentalists support the tax plan since it is aimed at curbing oil imports. In addition, it will not directly affect consumers since it will be levied at the mine or utility.

Article Abstract:

Several legislative acts favoring environmental preservation are expected to be passed with the coming of a new administration. But with only 5% of legislators prioritizing the environment, the future of this issue is no t yet ensured.
