Thinking globally and acting locally? Environmental attitudes, behavior and activism

Article Abstract:

Individual environmental attitudes are largely responsible for the citizens' protective and participatory behavior on environmental issues. The intensity of environmental protective attitudes reflect in the individual responses to their surroundings. Insight into environmental behavioral attitudes is invaluable in environmental policymaking. Women exhibit a greater intensity of environmental protective behavior as compared to men. Problems in environmental attitudes and behaviors need to be addressed in order to evolve socially desirable responses to the environment.

Ethics and environmental attitudes with implications for economic valuation

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that different ethical belief systems are not related to the attitude an individual takes towards the environment was tested. It was found that the existence of deontological belief systems affects the extent of acceptance of tradeoffs as opposed to respect for inviolable rights. The recognized rights-based beliefs which are relevant to environmental issues support to notion that 'environmentalists' are likely to hold rights based beliefs.

Attitudes to the social, environmental and economic impacts of the construction of an armaments complex

Article Abstract:

Public attitudes toward the construction of an armaments facility were analyzed to determine whether the sentiments arose from the desire to protect the environment or enhance the local economy. Results show that distance of residence from the proposed arms complex did not influence public attitudes. More evident were residents' concern over the recreational use of the site and safety risks.
