Three information-theoretical methods to estimate a random variable
Article Abstract:
Three information-theoretical methods developed to estimate a random variable are proposed for estimation when the distribution type is ambiguous, data is inadequate and extremes of distribution are important. The first is based on the maximum entropy method, and the second provides a least informative estimate, while the third yields a pair of distributions which minimize the relative entropy. The estimation method introduces minimal information, that approaches objectivity, and the solution provided is invariant under monotonic transformations of the variable.
