Top-down effects on population dynamics of Eriocrania miners (Lepidoptera) under pollution impact: Does an enemy-free space exist?

Article Abstract:

The study of the population densities of Eriocrania miners (Lepidoptera), the leaf eating moths and the assessed larval mortality from parasitoids were used to analyze the phenomenon of the creation of an enemy-free space for herbivores by the pollution. The results suggested that the parasitoids do not follow host population growth in the habitats heavily distributed by pollution and hence ultimately creates an enemy-free space for the Eriocrania miners.

Plant quality and predation risk mediated by plant ontogeny: Consequences for herbivores and plants

Article Abstract:

The effect of plant ontogeny on the bottom-up and top-down forces on herbivores are studied. The results show that the plant ontogeny influences the impact of bird predation on herbivore density and species diversity to a large extent and hence can also be used to change the plant quality and tropic level on herbivores in the system.
