Uncertain biotic and abiotic interactions in benthic communities

Article Abstract:

An analysis of marine benthic communities is made with the purpose of understanding the role of exogenous and endogenous factors in explanation of the species' temporal dynamics. To reveal the underlying interactions shaping these marine benthic communities is a challenge that calls for an array of various complementary approaches.

The response of benthic rhizopods to sediment disturbance does not support the intermediate disturbance hypothesis

Article Abstract:

The prediction of maximum diversity at intermediate disturbance intensities and frequencies is investigated. The coexistence and community diversity maintenance in benthic rhizophod communities depend on trophic niche separation and high rates of dispersal and colonization.

Seasonal energetic constraints in Mediterranean benthic suspension feeders: effects at different levels of ecological organization

Article Abstract:

The role of food as a constraining factor at different levels of ecological organization in benthic littoral ecosystems is examined. The seston availability in the water column, feeding and respiration by benthic suspension feeders (BSF) in the Mediterranean are described.
