United they stand
Article Abstract:
The people of Forest Grove and Center Springs, LA, joined together to block the construction of a uranium enrichment plant between their communities. The plant, which was proposed by Louisiana Energy Services, would have produced over 100,000 tons of toxic radioactive waste to be stored on site for more than 15 yrs. The towns' White and African American residents overcame their bias and racist attitudes against each other and formed the Citizens Against Nuclear Trash which succeeded in blocking the proposed facility.

Target: the Endangered Species Act
Article Abstract:
The Endangered Species Act (ESA) is being destroyed by corporations through economic arguments. The ESA, however, posesses little economic impact. The ESA prohibits the killing of endangered species and federal government from taking actions that contribute to such. Since its inception in 1973, the power of ESA has been weakened by federal action as a possibility for its repeal become increasingly evident.
