Willow (Salix fragilis Linn.): A multipurpose tree species under pest attack in the cold desert of Lahaul Valley, Northwestern Himalaya, India

Article Abstract:

Willow (Salix fragilis), a deciduous multipurpose tree that is grown extensively in the cold desert of Lahaul valley located in the northwestern Himalayas, India, under severe pest attack, and other infections is studied. It is recommended that to sustain cultivation of willow under the existing agroforestry system in the region, the locally available wild species and other established varieties of willow growing in similar regions of the Himalayas be introduced on a trial basis.

Impact of plantations on forest use and forest status in Orissa, India

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that tree plantations have significant potential to improve socioeconomic conditions for the rural poor in Orissa, India. The plantations can help reduce the time taken for resource gathering such as firewood, allow for increased consumption due to plentifulness, and decrease pressure on natural forests due to reduced consumption.

Social cost-benefit analysis of a watershed development project in Karnataka, India

Article Abstract:

India's watershed development projects were created to improve the economy and the ecology of the nation's semiarid and dry regions. Social cost-benefit analysis shows these projects to be socially desirable and economically viable.
