An organization, TreePeople, provides host of strategies ranging from cistern collection system to underground dry wells to conserve rainwater, which would improve the quality of life for California residents. With focus on increasing awareness about sustainable living and environmental restoration efforts, Los Angeles is expected to serve as a role model of sustainable living.

A citizen-based Waste Reduction Advisory Committee and Eco-Cycle plans on conducting a Lafayette Oatmeal Festival in 2006 with an aim of holding 'Zero Waste' special events. The Zero Waste events are proving to be one of the most powerful public education tools as they are showing residents how to function without a trash can.
