Ferrous Endures a tough hangover
Article Abstract:
The US ferrous scrap market is slowly recovering from the debilitating effects of the Asian economic crisis and dumping of foreign steel. While there are expected increases in the demand for steel products, new mini-mills have also started operations and the effects of these developments may be difficult to predict. One industry expert thinks that the industry's problems is not due to the Asian economic crisis or foreign steel dumping. The problem may be due to the fact that there is a surplus of shredders and there is a shortage of scrap for the shredders to process.
