Composting practices by nurseries and landscapers
Article Abstract:
The staff of the University of Massachusetts Cooperative Extension conducted a survey illustrating the green industry's participation in composting. Among participating companies, 71% say they make compost, with 73% of the material coming from outside sources. This proves that these companies do the community a great service in reducing solid waste. Most commonly used in their composting are fall leaves, lawn clippings and animal manure. Careful management of the compost process is not seen as a common practice, with only 55% sorting trash and 38% removing contaminants from the materials.

A natural fit for groundskeepers, landscapers and nurseries
Article Abstract:
Composted materials from ground and law maintenance operations may be used or marketed as soil amendment materials. The University of Georgia collects bedding, manure, leaves and grass clippings which are processed to produce landscape and topdressing material. Meanwhile, landscapers and nurseries such as GreenCycle Inc. in Northfield IL, are also composting trimmings which they then market in their communities
