Composting residuals on the farm
Article Abstract:
Rutland County Solid Waste District has set up a composting program for food residuals with Rutland Natural Resource Conservation District in Vermont. A farmer called Shaun Young has offered his father'sfarm, Maple Sugar Farm, as a location for composting. He sought a solution for composting cow manure during the winter, when it cannot be spread on the ground. Composting takes four months, and then two months' curing is carried out. There is a need to ensure that restaurants and other suppliers of waste do not include non-compostable materials such as plastic.
