Food waste diversion at Seattle markets
Article Abstract:
Larry's Markets, a grocery chain consisting of five stores in Seattle, has started composting floral and other produce residuals in 1991, assisted by Lawson's Disposal and Iddings Topsoils. Brant Rogers found that organic residuals formed a major part of the wastes in the garbage bins of supermarkets. The recycling of waste materials saved $9280 in the company's garbage expenses for the year 1992, and this method of food waste composting is also suggested for other groceries and haulers.

Understanding the total waste stream
Article Abstract:
A waste generation study conducted in Fullerton, California, shows the city's waste stream composition and helps in planning diversion of waste.
