Incentives for environmental self-regulation and implications for environmental performance
Article Abstract:
The factors that influence the adoption of environmental management systems (EMSs) by firms are examined and the extent to which the comprehensiveness of the EMS has an impact on toxic release intensity of the sample firms is established. The results reveal that the regulatory and market-based pressures do not have a direct impact on toxic releases but an indirect effect by encouraging institutional changes in the management of environmental concerns.
