Just in time or just too late?
Article Abstract:
The advantages and disadvantages of just-in-time inventory (JIT) are still being debated in the scrap paper industry. In addition to money issues, supporters of JIT cite other factors for using the system. These include value of waste paper, the fire hazards and safety issues. On the other hand, JIT critics say the method can also cause a recycler to lose money because of volatile market prices. Nevertheless, based on statistics from the American Forest and Paper Assn, mills have decreased the amount of inventory they hold and are trying to employ the JIT system.
