Life and times of an organics recycling company
Article Abstract:
Unisyn Biowaste Technology's full-scale commercial plant for recycling food residuals in Waimanalo, HI, closed down in Mar 1999 as a result of the pressure of regulatory changes and capital upgrade costs. The plant, opened in 1986, had become self-sustaining, powering itself with biogas produced from the digestion processes and recycling the liquid effluent. The City and County of Honolulu Recycling Dept remains committed to food residuals diversion.
