Managing manure on Japanese livestock and poultry farms

Article Abstract:

Composting has become Japan's primary treatment method for manure waste generated by beef cattle, dairy cattle, and pigs. Composting methods include the pile type, which is turned by shovel loaders for forced aeration, the open type, which turns compost by conveyor belt, and the enclosed vertical type, which mixes compost with moving paddles.

Meat processing by-products management trends

Issues are presented concerning the increasing use of composting as a means of utilizing the by-products of the meat processing industry. The reduction in the demand for products from animal rendering plants is discussed.
