Moving forward with multifamily recycling
Article Abstract:
Apartment buildings and condominiums are encouraging their residents to recycle by installing waste receptacles in their premises. For example, in Raleigh, NC, installed fiberglass containers with specific compartments for every type of recyclable material, including newspaper, cans, glass and plastic bottles. Meanwhile, a community in St. Paul, MN, provided additional containers for mail, magazines and corrugated cardboard. Recycling equipment manufacturers have also developed a chute system that allows residents to drop their recyclables at units on their own floors.

Taking the innovative approach to waste hauling
Article Abstract:
Tom Kraemer Sanitation Co of Cold Spring, Minnesota, has kept the recycling cost low by adopting tag system and making use of cocollection vehicle to gather recyclables and waste. In the tag system, customers buy tags and dispose waste any time during the week. A compactor truck and a refuse compartment travel together in the cocollection system, and the garbage is hauled into the compactor truck after the refuse compartment is full. Kraemer uses one vehicle for collecting garbage and recyclables, which keeps the cost down.
