National Biosolids Overview
Article Abstract:
BioCycle's 1999 National Biosolids Overview contains information on biosolids recycling in 49 US states. Of these, 29 are seeing a rise in the beneficial use of biosolids. Only seven states reported a rise in the landfilling of biosolids, while 39 did not and three had no information available. Landfill tip fees for biosolids were detailed by 21 states, of which 14 were $50/dry ton or less. Some 27 states have biosolids regulations posted on their web sites, with 11 states having permit forms that can be downloaded.

Sludge composting maintains growth
Article Abstract:
A summary of the 1992 survey results of municipal sewage sludge composting projects is presented. These projects are identified as either being an aerated static pile, in-vessel, windrow, aeratredwindrow or static pile type. Trends involving yard debris composting, paper addition to mixes, more organized public acceptance effort and the increase in the role of private companies in composting municipal sludge were prevalent in the survey. Odor control and marketing are still the primary management concern.
