Smoothing out the wrinkles
Article Abstract:
The North American scrap aluminum industry, which started year 2001 with lower stock prices, is hoping to bounce back during the rest of the year. Much of the decline is blamed on negative economic forecasts that has caused the automobile industry to reevaluate its sales targets. The industry is hoping that demand from the Pacific rim countries will rise during the rest of 2001 and facilitate the export of scrap aluminum.

Condition stable... but is it improving?
Article Abstract:
North American ferrous scrap dealers are slowly recovering from a slump in 1998 as economies in Asia and eastern Europe start improving. The main reason for this recovery is that steel mills and foundries in these countries are consuming more scrap and melting units as they try to increase their production rates. However, scrap dealers still face stiff competition in the forms of imported scrap and scrap substitutes.
