Paper mill ventures into vermicomposting

Article Abstract:

Liberty Paper's paper mill in Becker, MN, joined a project last summer that uses vermicomposting to biodegrade the firm's corrugated residuals and starch biosolids. The mill, which recycles corrugated containers into corrugated products, generates 150 wet tons of residuals a week and starch effluent. The facility for the project was a self-contained vermistabilization module which used Eisenia Foetida worms. The entire vermicomposting process lasted 50 days. The module was later dismantled due to the lack of a heated building. There are plans to build a permanent vermicomposting facility.
