Promoting curbside collection of textiles
Article Abstract:
Dumont Export Corporation of Philadelphia, a textile recycling company, is expanding the base of scrap supply by helping the municipalities to develop curbside textile collection programs. Dumont provides the municipalities with technical assistance, information flyers, and on-site trailers for storing and transporting the textiles. It also gives long-term contracts and price guarantees. Participants are given free plastic bags to prevent the textiles from becoming wet or soiled. For curbside collection, Dumont has collaborated with counties in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Source separated procurement specifications
Article Abstract:
Coalition of Northeastern Governors Source Reduction Task Force provides model procurement specifications for six source separated compost products. Trials being conducted, by two Connecticut University professors, will determine whether the specifications will be adopted or revised. Some of the factors being analyzed are the particle size distribution and negative environmental influences of the compost. The compost is being analyzed in eight test cells. The specifications will also be tested for topsoil and horticultural mulch.
