Re-boot re-use recycle
Article Abstract:
Demanufacturing and shredding are two ways of recycling microcomputers, so that components can be reused or precious metals can be recovered. For instance, United Recycling Industries is using the first method, with 95% of the computer materials that enter its facility being recycled. These range from hard drives, CD-ROMs to circuit boards. On the other hand, ShredTech shreds microcomputers and then separates the smaller components. It then recovers metals such as brass, zinc, copper and plastics from the shredded parts.

Bring it on
Article Abstract:
Computer manufacturers have implemented recycling programs for used computers. For instance, Hewlett-Packard (HP) formed a joint venture with Noranda for the recovery of components used on HP computers. The two companies built a metal separation plant in Roseville, CA, for processing used HP equipment. On the other hand, Dell Computer has a unit that handles asset recovery for customers. A spokesman for Dell said the company is targeting the larger portion of PCs still in use.
