Recycling programs serve university dorms
Article Abstract:
The Office of Residential Life (ORL) at Illinois State University started a recycling project in Jan 1991, which aimed to meet the needs of all its dormitories, dining halls, and apartment buildings. The program, which involves student participation, has a diversion rate of 10.6%. The ORL and the Illinois Department of Energy and Natural Resources will initiate a study in the winter of 1993 to examine the recycling of residence hall dining center food waste with newsprint to produce cattle feed.

Sustainable Jobs fund is a venture capital fund from North Carolina which is geared to sustainable industry providing work for people in areas of economic distress in the eastern US. Total capitalization is expected to reach up to $15 million in the early part of 2000. Funds are available for start-ups, young companies, and later-stage companies. EMPower Corp received the first investment in Jun 1999. The company makes and electric scooter using three wheels.
