Stamping out cigarette fires
Article Abstract:
2004 data on UK show that fires caused by smoking materials led to 114 deaths and 1,300 non-fatal casualties. A coalition that includes the London Fire Brigade is campaigning for 'fire safer' cigarettes as a standard across Europe through the initiative of the EU General Product Safety Directive.

London alcohol and drugs policy wins approval
Article Abstract:
A new policy on alcohol and drug use was approved in September at a London Fire Authority meeting. Details with regard to the policy, which sets out information on firefighters' alcohol and drug misuse and testing, are discussed.
