Leather company creates alternative to landfilling
Article Abstract:
The Eagle Ottawa Leather Co has innovatively created a landfill alternative by finding other uses for its tannery waste products residuals. The firm constructed a wastewater treatment plant and composting facility in 1993. The plant treats all wastewater, enabling the company to reduce its use of river water. Primary and secondary solids from the treatment system are processed then sent to the composting facility. The compost is being considered for beneficial uses outside its existing application on row crops.
