Composting fits nursery and landscape operations
Article Abstract:
On-site composting of yard and tree trimmings is profitable for nurseries and landscapers. Garden Gate Landscaping, MD, recycles by composting 95% of the materials collected from its landscaping works. The Angelica Nursery increases organic content in soil by composting and also uses biosolids in potting mix for ornamental landscape plants. The Groundskeeper, a landscape maintenance company, is successfully engaged in composting yard trimmings and food residuals and processing bedding materials.

Iowa monastery composts city yard trimmings
Article Abstract:
The New Melleray Abbey in Peosta, IA, composts yard trimmings coming from the neighboring city of Dubuque for use on its organically grown crops. The composting operation is part of the monastery's gradual transition from conventional to organic farming. The partnership is a boon to Dubuque because it allowed city officials to reduce the tip fees for the local landfill, resulting in lower solid waste management costs. The monastery is also interested in composting commercial food residuals and shredded wood pallets.
