The transition from dirty to clean industries: Optimal fiscal policy and the environmental Kuznets curve
Article Abstract:
Privately and socially optimal patterns of economic development in a two-sector endogenous growth model with clean and dirty goods are investigated. A second-best fiscal policy framework is considered in which distortionary taxes jointly influence economic growth and environmental quality.

Research is presented concerning the use of a globally representative sample of countries to estimate the environmental Kuznets curve for sulfur studies. The resulting values for sulfur emissions per capital are discussed.
