Vermicomposts suppress plant pest and disease attacks

Article Abstract:

The application of commercial vermicomposts, produced through interactions between earthworms and micro-organisms in the mesophilic degradation of organic wastes using a range of technologies is expanding rapidly. The Soil Ecology Laboratory in Ohio studies the effects of vermicompost on incidences of plant parasitic nematodes, insects and mites.

A case of long distance dispersal in the Piriqueta caroliniana complex

Article Abstract:

Genetic assays are applied to assess competing hypotheses on the origin of a geographically disjunct population of Piriquenta caroliniana. The goal of this study is to determine the origin of an apparently anomalous population, which possessed a phenotype that was incongruous with other populations in the region.
