Mr. Gilbert Moreno left Corporate America in 1992 to become CEO of the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) in Houston that run educational efforts like the adult literacy program, eight alcohol and drug abuse treatment centers, medical clinics, and technology training. The organization offers services geographically in Houston, San Antonio, Laredo, and the lower Rio Grande Valley.

Issues concerning the lack of popularity of bilingual education practiced in California for Hispanic children are discussed. Particular attention is given to political and social aspects of bilingual teaching and to the social roles of Hispanic families.
