Morales believes his bid for Senate against Phil Gramm in Texas was unsuccessful because of his lack of campaign money to counteract Gramm's lies about him, and his lack of organization. He received support from individual Hispanics but not enough wide-spread Hispanic support.

The effect of the strength of the US dollar on the overseas revenue of Hispanic businesses is discussed. Sales of $953.52 million in 1998 are the lowest since 1995. Details of the 1998 trading performances of the top 50 exporters are presented.
