The death of Mexican American singer Selena has finally drawn attention to the power of the Hispanic consumer market. Mourning fans went out in droves to buy her albums, biography and People Magazine's Selena commemorative issue. Hispanic Americans make up around 10% of the American population and have a collective purchasing power of close to $200 billion.

Article Abstract:
Hispanic artists are making a headway in the entertainment industry. Their growing popularity cannot be denied with hits like the motion picture The Mask of Zorro and the broadway musical The Capeman among others. Likewise, the mariachi band Sol de Mexico also makes a name in the music industry.
