Empire and the east: the orientalism of Lord Curzon
Article Abstract:
Former British Viceroy of India George Nathaniel Curzon has been depicted in biographies as an insensitive and proud public official. The myths circulated against Curzon have greatly tainted his image. However, a more objective examination of Curzon's life as a Viceroy of India would reveal that he was regretful of the physical intrusions of the West in Asia. Curzon did not consider Indians as inferior but saw them as heirs to a deteriorating civilization that needed British assistance.
