Reflections on anticlericalism and power relations in Spain
Article Abstract:
The Gramscian concepts of hegemony and hegemonic processes have been used to explain the events that led to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, with Gramsci's concept of patron-client relationship characterizing much of Spanish society at that time. The anticlericalism that flared up as war rage around the country was in reaction to the church's active support for fascism during that time.
