Security dominates border confab: Congressman Silverstre Reyes of Texas wants new funding programs

The immigration and national security issues have dominated the ninth annual U.S. Mexico Border Issues Conference, which was held in Washington D.C. in 2005, since the 2001 terrorist attacks. Congressman Silvestre Reyes (Republican from Arizona) has announced that he would be introducing the Border Economic Recovery Act for Health and the Environment and the Secure Borders Act, which are related to the U.S.-Mexico issues.

Reaching out to Hispanics
Article Abstract:
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has launched an aggressive outreach campaign targeted at the Hispanic community after it was found that Hispanics are generally not familiar with some of SSA's programs. The Hispanic community relies more heavily on Social Security than other groups because they tend to save less.
