Attunement between parents and professional caregivers: a comparison of childrearing attitudes in different child-care settings
Article Abstract:
The attitudes and perceptions of fathers, mothers and professional caregivers on childrearing, the relationship between parental and professional caregivers and the quality of the relationship between children and caregivers were investigated. Data from a national sample of 568 children in the Netherlands were analyzed to determine the attunement of childrearing attitudes between parents and nonparental caregivers. Results showed that lack of attunement in authoritarian support and control was linked to a lower degree of well-being in children.

In defense of parental investment
Article Abstract:
Susan Hays' arguments regarding the limitations of the article 'Parents' Socioeconomic Investment in Children' and the Parental Investment in the Child Questionnaire (PIC) lack merit. For instance, Hays claims that PIC prescribes an unrealistic and unfair level of devotion to childrearing among mothers. This argument reflects her very narrow view of the context of family life and its importance in parenting. In fact, parents' socioeconomic investment in children is a critical factor in family life.

Mother's solutions to childrearing problems: conditions and processes
Article Abstract:
A study of 128 mothers of children between 1 month to 18 years to investigate the quantity and quality of solutions to childrearing problems used by them shows that problem-solving processes may have more to do than verbal ability with the solutions to childrearing problems and with the childrearing style a mother develops. The more children a mother has, the more authoritarian her parenting style becomes.
