Behind the headlines: breastfeeding on trial
Article Abstract:
A young mother was convicted of criminally negligent homicide in the death of her two-month-old son. The infant died of starvation and dehydration because the mother was unaware than her earlier breast reduction had led to insufficient milk production. Expert witnesses state that not enough information was given to mothers who breast feed or about the warning signs of problems that may be encountered.
