Article Abstract:
Middle-ear infections, or otitis media, are the second-most frequent ailment that befalls young children, next to colds. Such infections often follow a cold that lasts for at least two days. Some symptoms for the infection, as well as ways to soothe and treat a child infected with otitis media, are discussed.

Consensus on feeding infants has gone from strict scheduling to feeding on demand to a flexible in-between position. Breastfeeding a newborn on demand within reason is healthy. The child should be gradually adjusted to a regular schedule, to learn that mothers and society also have demands.

Adding rice cereal to a baby's diet at the age of four months is the best way to begin solid foods. Fruits and vegetables can be added a few weeks later. The baby is ready to try strained meats by seven or eight months.
