According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Council Commission, the rapid rise in scooter popularity in 2000 led to 40,500 scooter-related emergency room visits and some deaths. Taking safety precautions such as checking the scooter's latches and fastenings, wearing protective clothing and equipment, riding on even surfaces, and riding in the daylight can help to prevent accidents.
